More of the latter. It’s built to a very low pricepoint in base trim. Still a decent car, but it gets trounced by everything else in the segment on interior quality. The one thing I’ve always liked about the A class is the upper end engine choices and DSG/Manual transmission options . The A220d diesel gets up and goes.

I see, I guess it’s competing some tough competition like the IS, A3, 3-series.
I’d be more excited about those if we had a IS Sportcross and A3 Hatchback (at least here in Canada, not sure about other markets) but that BMW 3-series Touring is a $10,000 jump in MSRP for the base model.
That Mercedes does look decent, even if it’s familiar.
